VPNs are still being used for corporate purposes, but for most casual users a virtual private network can supply an extra layer of security for Internet users (particularly on public Wi-Fi networks), additional privacy, and anonymity. VPNs are created by establishing a virtual point-to-point connection either using dedicated circuits (like from the regional office to head office) or with tunneling protocols over the Internet.
